The most enjoyable part of the gameplay was the interaction with the characters. In most adventure games, the characters are mostly there for atmosphere or plot support. In Titanic, the characters are the game. They respond accordingly to what you tell them (you'll have a number of phrases or questions to choose from). Think carefully before you speak, though. Once I angered one of the ship's officers, and it took me much time and haggling before I could get back into his good graces. You must listen carefully to the passengers' conversations and comments, then do a little old-fashioned investigating to discern your next move.Titanic provides you with multiple endings; which one you get depends on which subplot you choose to investigate and how well you succeed. There are three items you'll need to get off the ship before 2:00 a.m. -- the Rubaiyyat (a book), a painting, and the Russian Czar's notebook. Any combination of these, including not getting any of them, will result in a different ending to the story. I had such a good time watching how I changed the world that I replayed the end of the game several times until I had seen each ending.

Titanic: Adventure Out of Time is a 1996 point-and-click adventure game developed by CyberFlix and published in the United States and United Kingdom by GTE Entertainment and Europress respectively, for Microsoft Windows and Macintosh. It takes place in a virtual representation of the RMS Titanic, with the player assuming the role of a British spy who has been sent back in time to the final night of the Titanic and must complete a previously failed mission to prevent World War I, the Russian Revolution, and World War II from occurring. The gameplay involves exploring the ship and solving puzzles. There are multiple outcomes and endings to the game depending on the player's interactions with characters and use of items.
Though not finished, this leaked beta plus the Titanic export file should let you play the game.The only problem so far is quite strange: the first screen of each sequence is black. You can easily bypass the problem by clicking on the game icon in the taskbar or, even easier, pressing the left and arrow key in sequence: this will cause a left and right movement that will bring you back in the original state, but will show the images on screen.Beware: this game is not very desktop friendly, to make it such I had to add a new flag, Libs / "Win insulation", that doesn't let the game know about other windows on the desktop and then try to move them (who knows why the programmers included this feature?). In addition, also the "Lock sys colors" flag will avoid a ugly update of the desktop theme, and to be cartain that these flags intercept the problems timely it is necessary to hook in "Debugger mode" or equivalent.So, don't tell I didn't warn you if you try to hook the game with default parameters and get a mess! :)
In addition to the game, the CD-ROM also includes a separate exploration feature that features characters in the game discussing various aspects of the ship, its crew and passengers, and the sinking. These characters would be placed at locations around the ship. Three character narrations were included with the game, while others could be downloaded from the game's website (a later release of the game includes a bonus CD-ROM with these download-able narrations). They were later available for download on the website of Cyberflix's successor Barracuda, and are now available at -titanic.com/titanic_adventure_out_of_time_tour_guide_downloads.shtml.
The Game The game captures a significant piece of the dramatic and oft-told of the Titanic. The title serves as both an adventure game and a virtual recreation of the ship itself. An optional "tour" feature of the game allows you to explore the ship without game constraints (and without a savegame capability), and even by itself could justify spending time with the game for Titanic buffs or those just interested in what the ship must have been like.

Aside from talking to people, there are also objects to pick up and use to help solve puzzles and advance the story. Once you get through all these plots, you come to the actual point where the ship hits the iceberg. From then to the end of the game, you are racing against the clock to perform a number of tasks before the ship sinks, or your mission will fail. I normally don't care for time limits in adventure games but it works very well here and fits nicely with the story. After all, if the ship were sinking, you would be prettly flipping motivated to get things done.
